Would Jesus Discriminate?

A new website came across my radar - I believe the Rev. Jimmy Creech, who was ousted from a Methodist Church in Omaha for performing a gay commitment ceremony, has something to do with it. I'll have to research more.

The site poses several questions directly relating to Jesus and how he feels/would feel/felt about homosexuals. It also takes a new look at several scriptures where Jesus comments on the issue. While the Bible is subject to interpretation, it's an interesting counterpoint to many arguments. The site is intelligent, thoughtful and put together well.

One of their billboards:

Check out the site here and post your comments. Would love to know what people think.

I've gotta say, while I'm not religious, I love what you're doing here. I was brought up Christian, and I just can't see how Phelps and the WBC gang justify what they do. I wish all the best to you and your blog!

Thank you for this site. Phelps and his people are nothing more than a bunch of inbred hillbillies with a lot of time on their hands. The fact that they protest funerals ought to show you how demented these people are. They want attention, try not to give it to them. I wish they would follow the people of Jonestown and the adults should all have a little glass of Kool-Aid...just a thought.

Matthew 19:10-12

Hello, I came to your site via a link from an Islamic site bashing the Bible by purposely misinterpreting the scriptures for their own agenda... something that I saw above in that image as well.

Jesus did not say that some are born gay. You misinterpreted it. If you read from the beginning of Matthew 19:1-12 you shall see that the Pharisees question Jesus about divorce by a man to a women! Nowhere does it speak about a person being gay.

You are misinterpreting this incorrectly:

11Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage[c]because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

Jesus did not speak about people being born gay, let alone saying those exact words as you claim in your image. You are misinterpreting it for your own personal agenda! What Jesus meant was that not everyone is capable of marriage, some are not because they were made by others, and some because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven! It is speaking about marriage, and only marriage, nothing about homosexuality. Furthermore, it is speaking about Eunuchs; men who have been castrated as a direct meaning, but in terms of the scripture it means castration in the form of giving up yourself entirely for the Lord and for the Lord only! Even more so, the word eunuch comes from the Greek word eunoukhos, meaning bed keeper, well because they would have no sexual intentions... so you cannot interpret eunuch as a gay person either. Please do not moderate my post, and please heed my plea to you.

I've spent the whole day trying to talk to christians who are intent on putting gay people down as worthless sinners. I'm so tired of it. I'm worn out

Amen, Chris.

Let me just say that the Phelps' are in sin and rebellion.

However, homosexuality is an abomination. (Romans 1) But so are many forms of heterosexuality. The good news is that there is grace, mercy, and forgiveness for all who confess their sins and call upon Jesus as Lord and Savior.

By the way, it is logically inconsistent to assert that you "abhor hatred in all forms." If you hate hatred, then you hate that you hate hatred - which is hateful. We are to love people and hate evil. Love sinners, but hate sin. Love homosexuals. Hate homosexuality. Love liars. Hate the act of lying. Love adulterers. Hate adultery.

As it is, in our depravity, we often love sin and hate sinners - a big reason why so many on the left hate the "Christian right".

Greetings from Indiana!

Misquoting scripture is a sin as well as sodomy:
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." II Peter 1:20 KJV

God has clear scripture stating His view on homosexuality:

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:21 - 32 KJV

On the same token, the 3rd chapter of John shows that God hates no soul & sent His only Son to purchase the sins of mankind to provide access to Heaven for eternity! He hates no soul & true Christians are to follow His example:
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." II Peter 3:9 KJV.
Phelps' followers are blind to the Scriptures & do not demonstrate God's love in any way, shape or form!!

Hey, that's cool! You can pretend Jesus said anything. All you have to do is claim that he said anything and then say that it came from any random scripture! It doesn't matter if the scripture is totally unrelated, no one will look it up and find out you're a liar.
Hey, i can do it with Islam too!
Muhammad said that he had sex with a donkey and the pooped a hammer.
Quran 5:16

^ I guess u can't do it. To make it look legit u gotto have at least a book of the Quran to go with the verse numbers. LOL
